Memories - Quidditch
I’ve trained, practiced and played along side many amazing people on this team over the last couple years. I wish I could say something to everyone, but I’d miss someone and feel bad, so I’d just like to say that everyone who has been involved in this team at any level at any point has been wonderful. But I would especially like to thank Matt for all of the work he’s put in. This team respects him greatly, and for good reason. He’s an awesome captain, with a great attitude and makes this team a wonderful thing to be a part of.

I couldn't just sit here and take credit for the team. Nobody on or off the team knows how much time and work Kimaire puts in to the team. When Xan (and I) picked her as a co-captain, I didn't really know her. But Xan (and I) made a great choice. She knows how to keep things fun when I go into Oliver Wood mode. She also does a lot of work, hosts the bot and many practices. I think of us more as two co-captains than as me as a captain and her as my co-captain. There could not be nor will there ever be a co-captain as dedicated and good for any team as Kimaire is for this team.

After being a member of HOL for a month, I finally decided to download this program, mIRC, that everyone was talking about. I attended Saturday Night Trivia every once in a while, just to see what it would be like. Then came the beginning of the quidditch season. There wasn't really try-outs, but more of 'let's-see-where-you-stand-outs". At that time, we used a system of quizzing, called Xany Trivia. This was fun, addicting, and great practice. Soon after, Xany Trivia advanced into Xtreme Xany Trivia, with head-to-head competition and bludgers. Matt and Professor Xanthos were always patient with us, especially me and my 'speeling'. On our infamous first match against Slytherin, I was sitting on the "bench" with Ron Thompson, cheering on the team. I sat on the bench most of the first term, however, I did play my first match as a chaser in February 28th, 2002, against Hufflepuff. We won, 100-80; I did get to score three times, though I faced the Keeper many. I will never forget that game. Another game I won't forget is the second time we played Slytherin in our first year. We stomped them. I don't think we were ever that happy after a match. I, again, was riding the bench. Our first season of quidditch was definitely a memorable one; ranging from wonderful victories to painful defeats, to interesting practices.
Second year was equally as memorable. We got new talent on the team, Toby and Hari, and NUVI. I always enjoyed, and enjoy at the present, coming to quidditch practice. Whether it is a formal Monday, where we can't talk (and that is REALLY hard for me) to crazy informal Tuesday practices. The muggle world got the better of me in the spring semester. I was overwhelmed with real life things, that prevented me from spending time on HOL, which I regret greatly, as I didn't get to play with Hari. But I have over this summer, and she is amazing.
I love all of my teammates and am proud to wear the robes and stand next to them. Each person is a valuable asset to the team and each person brings that something extra that the other Houses don't have. We have a great sense of unity and friendship, and that, I think, is one of the most important items in a team. We do care about winning, but we care more about playing fairly and having fun; though at times we have been doormats that have been walked all over on, but we hold our heads high with dignity. I'm excited that we have lots of new people on the team, and I hope that we all can have a successful year this year. Successful not in winning, but in every other aspect.

It’s only been seven months, but already I’ve made so many memories that I feel like my head is about to explode just thinking about it. One of my clearest memories is of one of the first days I came onto IRC - I was a typical nervous newbie, and thought it would be a good idea to pop into the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team channel. I left said channel before anyone could talk to me, but only a few seconds later Kyrie Adderholt cornered me in #ravenclaw, telling me that I should come back to the quidditch channel (and, looking through the logs I remember that Maya Winters was afraid they had scared me away! “<@Apsalar> must..not..scare her this time >_>”) I started botting, and eventually made my way onto the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team. This is one of the best decisions I made since joining HOL, because the people I’ve met through RQT are some of my best friends on the site. Whether it’s singing loudly in the team channel during Blue vs. Bronze, or cheering on my teammates during official quidditch games, I’ve been so grateful to have such a fun group of people be a part of my HOL experience. And unfortunately for them, I’m not planning on leaving anytime soon.
Quidditch has been a part of a lot of my HOL memories, now that I think about it. Learning how to ref and then reffing my first official snitch game (while completely terrifying!) was also so much fun. And right now with 1v1, I’ve was able to participate both as a quidditch player and as somebody helping to run it, which was such a great experience for me. Quidditch is definitely a competitive ‘sport’ on HOL, but even though I might have my game face on when playing members of different teams, once we come out of the game we are all HOLers together, and it’s so fun just to talk with everyone from all over the world.

I have an amazing time on the quidditch team! I remember when I first found out that it was possible to be even more HP obsessed than I was, and how hard those questions were! I remember my first match and I was really, really, REALLY, nervous that I wouldn't do well. I managed to get through it and scored three goals, and afterwards I was so mentally exhausted that I went upstairs and collapsed on my bed :) hehe

As a first year, there’s so much to do here at HOL. However, I would have to say that my favorite part of HOL is quidditch. I know it sounds cheesy, but the quidditch team is really one big family. We have our squabbles and arguments, but at the end of the day, we’re a team, and that means a lot to me.
I remember distinctly my experience getting into quidditch. I had enrolled in Prof. Missa Matz’s HOL Quidditch class, hoping to learn about the fundamentals of the game before I tried out for the team. I read ahead in the lessons, and, learning about mIRC, downloaded and installed it, and ventured into #ravenclawquidditch. Because the bots say hello when you enter the room, I knew how to start and stop the trivia, and I began to bot… slowly.
As I botted more, I started feeling more comfortable, and during one of my botting sets, Kyrie Adderholt encouraged me to try out for the team. She had to leave, but she assured me that Tara Aurelium would be watching my try-out. And just like that, I was a part of the Ravenclaw quidditch family.
I’ve had a lot of fun learning questions galore and botting up a storm, and it’s so exciting to play in games with the team. I hope that during my time here at HOL, Ravenclaw can continue its streak of wins for quite some time. I may get frustrated sometimes, especially when I come down with typo-ese, but I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way.
